Trump Promises To Replace Who?
President-elect Donald Trump announced Monday that he intends to replace the current head of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Colleen Shogan, once he takes office. Speaking with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump confirmed, “We will have a new archivist.”
Federal law gives the president the authority to remove the archivist, though the reasons for the dismissal must be communicated to Congress. This legal framework ensures transparency and accountability in the decision-making process.
Trump’s decision comes amid his ongoing legal battles, particularly the high-profile case over the Mar-a-Lago documents. This case revolved around Trump’s alleged retention of sensitive documents from his first term, despite repeated efforts by NARA and the FBI to retrieve them. However, the legal tide appears to have shifted in Trump’s favor. Special Counsel Jack Smith, who had been overseeing the investigation, withdrew from the case last week, leaving the prosecution of Trump’s two co-defendants to local federal authorities in Florida. In a significant move, Smith also dismissed charges against Trump two months ago, citing Department of Justice policy which prohibits the prosecution of a sitting president.
“We had a brilliant and fair judge on the case,” Trump told Hewitt, referring to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who ruled to dismiss the case in July. Trump confidently added, “We won it convincingly.”
Colleen Shogan, who took office as the archivist in May 2023, has been a controversial figure among conservatives. Prior to her appointment, she faced scrutiny from Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), for her past posts on social media, where she criticized prominent Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and advocated for mask mandates for children.
Despite these concerns, the National Archives has expressed optimism about continuing its work with the incoming administration. “Dr. Shogan has had a strong working relationship with President Trump and his team. We look forward to continuing that relationship with the new administration,” the Archives said in a statement.
As President-elect Trump prepares to take office, it’s clear he intends to reshape the leadership of key federal agencies, signaling his commitment to implementing the priorities of the Republican base.
“Trump Calls Jimmy Carter A Great Leader, You Agree?”
let’s see, Carter’s responsible for double-digit inflation, the failed rescue attempt from iran, and the overall bad governance during his SINGLE presidential term which resulted in Ronald Reagan’s TOTAL landslide victory in 1982. moreover, from what i recall during that election, there was at least one state, if not several, where the people were upset because by the time they could get their votes in, Ronald Reagan had such a lead that their votes technically didn’t count. …. hmmm, i guess i’d have to disagree with President Trump about Carter’s “greatness” as a leader. but then again, Trump’s weakest area is his lack of ability to properly vet people (for ex, during his 1st term when he appointed people like: pence, sessions, barr, halley, etc… and the people that he retained in positions that were appointed by obama, etc…).
