Gaetz Running For Governor
Former Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) recently hinted at the possibility of running for governor of Florida in 2026, sharing his thoughts in an exclusive interview with the Tampa Bay Times. Gaetz, now a television host and prominent political figure, said he’s seriously considering a gubernatorial run, with a strong focus on solving the state’s ongoing insurance crisis.
“I’ve got a clear and compelling vision for Florida’s future,” Gaetz stated in the interview. “One of my top priorities would be addressing the state’s insurance challenges. I believe the solution is not to give unchecked power to the insurance industry, but to put the people of Florida first.” Gaetz emphasized that, if he decides to run, he would position himself as the most pro-consumer Republican candidate in the race.
Gaetz also explained that while he is leaning toward entering the race, he needs more time to reflect and discuss the decision with his wife. He expressed that he is praying about the move, underscoring the importance of family and faith in his process.
The discussion about a potential gubernatorial bid comes after a period of controversy following Gaetz’s resignation from Congress. Gaetz stepped down after being considered for President-elect Trump’s Attorney General appointment, which ultimately didn’t move forward. In the wake of this, the House Ethics Committee released a report detailing an investigation into allegations of misconduct, including accusations of prostitution and drug use. Gaetz has firmly denied any wrongdoing, labeling the allegations as “lies” and stating that they have never hindered his ability to connect with voters or win elections.
“I’ve been dealing with these false accusations for years,” Gaetz told the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s never stopped me from fighting for what’s right, and it won’t stop me from doing so in the future.”
Should he run, Gaetz would face the challenge of winning over voters while confronting both the political establishment and a liberal media eager to undermine his every move. His combative style, along with his focus on defending conservative values and prioritizing the needs of Floridians, could make for a strong campaign in 2026.
