Democrats Continue Attacking Trump’s New AG
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) recently took aim at President-elect Trump’s selection of former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to head the Justice Department, labeling her a “massive election denier” and a “Trump apologist.” During an interview on CNN’s The Lead, Wasserman Schultz criticized Bondi’s qualifications, saying that while she has experience as a former attorney general, her association with Trump and her past rhetoric made her a problematic choice for the role.
“Pam Bondi was the attorney general of the state of Florida for eight years, so she certainly has experience in law enforcement,” Wasserman Schultz acknowledged. “However, she comes with the baggage of being a staunch election denier.” Wasserman Schultz went further, calling Bondi a “Trump lackey” and implying that Trump’s preference for her was part of his broader strategy to surround himself with loyalists.
Her remarks came shortly after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) withdrew from consideration for the Attorney General post. Gaetz, who had initially been tapped for the job, faced mounting scrutiny over an Ethics Committee report and allegations of misconduct, including illicit drug use. Despite her criticisms of Bondi, Wasserman Schultz indicated that Bondi might be a better pick than Gaetz. She acknowledged Bondi’s work in consumer protection, noting that Bondi had led successful lawsuits to bring resources back to Floridians who had been wronged.
Wasserman Schultz’s comments come at a time when Republicans have secured control of both chambers of Congress and the White House. However, she argued that Democrats still hold significant leverage, pointing out that the slim margins of recent elections mean that bipartisan cooperation will be crucial for passing any major legislation. She claimed that the “Republican red wave” touted by many GOP leaders was overstated, and that Democrats would continue to have a strong voice in shaping policy going forward.
For many conservatives, the focus should be on ensuring that the Justice Department is led by someone who will prioritize law and order, rather than partisan politics. Bondi’s record as a staunch defender of conservative values in Florida makes her a solid choice to restore integrity to the DOJ, especially after years of politicization under the previous administration. Rather than attacking Bondi’s past stance on election integrity, conservatives should focus on her proven track record of fighting for the rule of law and protecting everyday Americans from corruption and fraud. With the future of the nation at stake, it is critical that Republicans support strong, principled leadership in key positions like Attorney General to hold the line against the radical left’s efforts to undermine the Constitution and erode our freedoms.
