Are Democrats Wrong To Boycott Texas Border Hearing?

Top Biden Official Attacked

Mike Pence, who served as Vice President under Donald Trump, is standing by a joke he made about Pete Buttigieg, President Biden’s Transportation Secretary, at a private dinner attended by politicians and journalists. The joke was later condemned by the White House and Buttigieg’s spouse.

According to Fox, “Pete is the only person in human history to have a child and everyone else gets postpartum depression,” Pence stated at the Gridiron Dinner.

Mike Pence has stated that he will make a decision in the spring regarding his potential bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Pence was joking about Pete Buttigieg taking time off for family leave after he and his husband Chasten adopted twins in 2021.

“The Gridiron Dinner is a roast. I had a lot of jokes directed to me, and I directed a lot of jokes to Republicans and Democrats,” Pence said defending his joke.

“The only thing I can figure is Pete Buttigieg not only can’t do his job, but he can’t take a joke,” Pence said doubling down on Buttigieg.

Karine Jean-Pierre, Biden’s White House press secretary, spoke with The Washington Blade, a left-leaning LGBTQ publication on Monday, where she described Mike Pence’s joke as “homophobic,” “inappropriate,” and “offensive.” She urged him to apologize to the LGBTQ community and women.

Marc Short, a former chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence and one of his top advisors, countered by saying that the White House was exhibiting hypocrisy and urged the Biden administration to refrain from fake outrage. Short suggested that the White House should prioritize addressing issues such as bank failures, near midair collisions of planes, train derailments, and the ongoing supply chain crisis, rather than appeasing the “woke police.”

Pete Buttigieg’s husband Chasten Buttigieg also condemned Pence and said this was “part of a much bigger trend attacking families.”

“I spoke up because we all have an obligation to hold people accountable for when they say something wrong, especially when it’s misogynistic, especially when it’s homophobic, and I just don’t take that when it’s towards my family, and I don’t think anyone else would, especially when you bring a very small, medically fragile child into it,” Pete Buttigieg’s husband Chasten said.
