Biden Escalates Tensions With Russia
In a show of support, President Joe Biden has backed the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that the action is appropriate and warranted.
In transcript provided by the Washington Examiner, Biden stated, “I think it makes a very strong point. [Putin] has clearly committed war crimes.”
On Friday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) declared an arrest warrant for the Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing “reasonable grounds” for his involvement in the Ukrainian war. The court has accused Putin of committing “war crimes,” specifically the “unlawful deportation and transfer of children from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.”
While the United States does not recognize the International Criminal Court (ICC) nor is it a member, President Biden’s endorsement of the ICC’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin is largely symbolic. Nonetheless, President Biden has voiced his support for continued investigations into Putin’s alleged war crimes.
In addition to Vladimir Putin, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has also issued an arrest warrant for Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, the commissioner for children’s rights in the Office of the President of the Russian Federation. The ICC has deemed her responsible for the alleged crimes committed by Putin. ICC President Judge Piotr Hofmanski, in a video statement, has stated that the warrants have been made public “in the interest of justice and to prevent the commission of future crimes,” as decided by the judges handling the case.
Many Americans believe that President Biden and the Democrats could soon lead the United States into World War III and they may be right.
