Democrats Block Photo ID For Good
In a shocking turn of events, it has just been learned that North Carolina’s Supreme Court decided to strike down the state’s voter ID requirement by claiming that it was racially discriminatory and violated their Constitution.
According to The Hill, in 2018 Senate Bill 824 was passed via the state’s Republican-controlled legislature even though it was vetoed by the Democratic governor was looking to require photo ID to vote.
The state’s Supreme Court claimed that while the law appeared neutral, it was targeting African-American voters who were unlikely to vote for Republicans.
The court tried to justify their actions and explained, “In doing so, we do not conclude that the General Assembly harbored racial animus; however, we conclude just as the trial court did, that in passing S.B. 824, the Republican majority ‘targeted voters who, based on race, were unlikely to vote for the majority party.’”
“Given the rarity of voter fraud in North Carolina, a less restrictive law could have been sufficient to deter voter fraud and promote voter confidence in elections had this goal been the law’s only actual purpose,” the court later added.
