VIDEO: Fox Tries To Make Trump Look Stupid
A video featuring Fox News anchor Bret Baier has gained significant traction on Twitter. In the clip, Baier discusses former allies of Donald Trump who have distanced themselves from the ex-president, and it has garnered 4.2 million views on the platform as of 4:40 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
According to Newsweek, the viral video is a segment taken from Baier’s Monday night interview with Trump. The interview occurred less than a week after Trump, the Republican candidate, entered a not guilty plea to 37 federal charges related to alleged mishandling of classified documents. During the interview, Trump delved into the details of the classified documents, talked about Russian President Vladimir Putin, and engaged in a fact-checking exchange with Baier regarding his claims of the 2020 election being stolen from him.
Interestingly, Trump’s popularity remains strong in the Republican primary polls for the 2024 presidential election, showing an increase in support despite his legal challenges. The most recent Harris Poll, conducted between June 14 and 15 with a sample size of 283 registered voters, indicated Trump leading with 53 percent, followed by Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, at 17 percent, and Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence at 6 percent.
During the interview, Trump expressed his intention to appoint capable individuals for future positions in his administration, even praising John Bolton, a recent critic and former National Security Adviser, who had previously made disparaging remarks about the former president’s handling of documents. Trump acknowledged Bolton’s effectiveness in negotiations, despite their differences.
The Twitter video begins with Baier quoting Trump from a 2016 phone interview with Robert Costa of The Washington Post, in which Trump pledged to surround himself with the best and most serious people. Trump defends himself, claiming that he did indeed surround himself with such individuals, citing the strong state of the economy during his tenure.
Baier then proceeds to mention former allies from Trump’s administration who have either turned against him or faced public criticism from him. He highlights that Vice President Mike Pence is now running against Trump, along with Nikki Haley, the former ambassador to the United Nations. Additionally, Baier notes that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated he would not support Trump, as confirmed by his April statement ruling himself out of the Republican presidential primary. National Security Adviser John Bolton, who has also distanced himself from Trump, is mentioned as well. Bolton recently stated that any normal person would withdraw from the campaign if facing the federal charges Trump currently faces. Attorney General Bill Barr’s critical comments about Trump, including referring to him as a “consummate narcissist” and a “troubled man,” are also brought up, with Baier mentioning Trump’s subsequent social media post in which he called Barr a “gutless pig.”
