While congress is at a stalemate on the government spending bill the nonprofit Senior Citizens League is giving older people $1,400 stimulus checks. Many other programs are also handing Americans money as their own sort of stimulus payment.
The child tax credit can be applied by anyone who has a child that is 17 or younger living in the same house as the parent. People can earn up to $1,500 for kids 6 to 17, and as much as $1,800 for each child under 6. The money is given out by the IRS for those who have filed their tax returns.
Struggling renters are also getting some help by the government. There are many state specific programs that heavily benefit renters from around the country. Some landlords and tenants can request a one time grant that can go up to $25,000.
