Should Trump Sign The Bipartisan Housing Bill?

Top Democrat Released From Hospital

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) is back home after being treated for minor injuries following a multi-vehicle crash in Delaware on Sunday.

The Delaware senator said the accident occurred after another driver suffered a medical emergency, triggering a collision involving several vehicles, including the one in which Coons was riding.

Coons was taken to Beebe Hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries before being discharged later that day. In a post on X, the senator said he had returned home and expects to recover fully in the coming days.

Coons Thanks First Responders

The senator also expressed appreciation for the emergency personnel who responded quickly to the scene.

“I’m deeply grateful to the first responders for their prompt, professional, and compassionate care,” Coons said in a follow-up message.

Authorities have not indicated that Coons was driving or that he played any role in causing the crash. According to his statement, the collision began when another motorist experienced a medical incident.

Lawmakers From Both Parties Offer Support

The accident prompted an outpouring of bipartisan support from fellow lawmakers.

Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Del.) said she was relieved to learn Coons was recovering and thankful that no one involved suffered serious injuries.

Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) also extended his well wishes.

“My wife, Dina, and I are keeping Chris in our prayers,” McCormick wrote. “We’re grateful to the first responders who cared for everyone involved and thankful that Chris is expected to make a full recovery.”

A Reminder About Road Safety

Medical emergencies behind the wheel can happen without warning and sometimes involve multiple vehicles. Sunday’s crash serves as a reminder of the important work performed every day by police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and medical professionals who respond to emergencies and help protect lives.

Coons has indicated that his injuries were minor and that he expects to resume normal activities following his recovery.
