Biden Praises Hillary
In his final days in office, President Joe Biden bestowed the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom on 19 individuals he hailed as “change makers” who have left an “incredible mark” on the nation. This highest civilian honor recognizes individuals for their contributions to society, whether through cultural influence, humanitarian efforts, or pioneering achievements in various fields.
Biden’s remarks were filled with praise for the honorees, whom he described as “cultural icons” and “heroes of the highest order.” He lauded their tireless efforts to bring hope to those in need, inspire movements, and enrich the American experience through their work. “You feed the hungry, you give hope to those who are hurting, and you craft the signs and sounds of our movements and our memories,” he stated.
Among the recipients were a mix of well-known figures from different walks of life, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, celebrity chef José Andrés, sports icon Denzel Washington, “Vogue” editor Anna Wintour, and scientist Bill Nye. These individuals, Biden said, had “insight and influence that can be felt around the globe in major cities and remote areas alike.”
The ceremony also honored several individuals posthumously, such as civil rights pioneer Fannie Lou Hamer, former Michigan Governor George Romney, and former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy—whom Biden referred to as his “political hero.” Biden expressed deep admiration for these late figures, noting their enduring legacies of courage and conviction.
Family members, including First Lady Jill Biden and former President Bill Clinton, were present to witness the ceremony. Biden’s own family—his son Hunter and the memory of his late son Beau—were also on hand to share in this significant moment. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and other prominent figures in Biden’s administration joined in the tribute to these distinguished individuals, whose achievements have shaped America’s future.
