Pam Bondi Silent On Jack Smith?
Pam Bondi, former Attorney General of Florida, recently faced questions about whether she would launch an investigation into Special Counsel Jack Smith, who has been leading the investigation into President Trump. Bondi, during her Senate confirmation hearing, avoided making any definitive commitments, citing her lack of access to the investigation’s files. However, she did not hold back from expressing her dissatisfaction with Smith’s actions.
When asked by Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) if she would consider investigating Smith, Bondi remarked, “I haven’t seen the file, I haven’t seen the investigation. It would be irresponsible for me to make a commitment.” Despite this, she did not hesitate to describe Smith’s probe as “horrible,” pointing out that the public information she had seen was troubling. Bondi’s hesitation to commit to an investigation contrasted with her sharp criticism of the special counsel’s efforts, which she has previously labeled as politically motivated.
Sen. Schiff pressed further, claiming that the investigation into Trump was “one very specific, non-hypothetical” issue. Schiff referenced President Trump’s public statement, in which Trump called for Smith to be jailed, adding more heat to the already intense debate.
Bondi has consistently voiced her concerns over the ongoing investigations into Trump. In 2023, she stated on Fox News that any improper actions by Department of Justice officials or prosecutors should not go unchecked. “The bad ones will be prosecuted,” she asserted, signaling that she believes accountability should apply to all levels of government, not just the accused.
Bondi’s remarks came shortly after Smith released a substantial portion of his final report on Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Smith defended his investigation, dismissing accusations that the charges were politically motivated as “laughable.” However, for many conservatives, Smith’s probe remains a partisan attack, with figures like Bondi continuing to stand firm against what they view as a politically charged and unjust campaign.
