Did Trump And MAGA Lie About Being Anti-War?

Gabbard Sworn In

Tulsi Gabbard was sworn in as the new Director of National Intelligence on Wednesday, following her Senate confirmation. The oath was administered by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, with President Trump present in the Oval Office. Trump praised Gabbard as “an American of extraordinary courage and patriotism” and highlighted her impressive military service, noting she had been deployed three times in the Army National Guard. He also mentioned her unique background as a former Democratic congresswoman, adding with a smile, “Can you believe that?”

In her remarks, Gabbard thanked the president for his trust and vowed to restore faith in the intelligence community. “The American people have lost trust in our intelligence agencies due to their politicization and weaponization. It’s time to refocus on what matters—ensuring the security of the nation,” she stated.

The Senate confirmed Gabbard in a 52-48 vote after months of debate over her qualifications. Despite her military background and political experience, Gabbard faced opposition, with former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) being the only Republican to vote against her, while no Democrats supported her nomination.

President Trump, in his comments, spoke highly of Gabbard, praising her leadership and commitment to the values that define America. He emphasized her deep respect for freedom and how she has earned the admiration of Americans from all walks of life. “She really does have those values as much as anybody,” Trump said.

Gabbard’s nomination stirred controversy, especially due to her previous opposition to expanded surveillance powers under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and her refusal to label former contractor Edward Snowden a traitor. Despite the pushback, Vice President Mike Pence, who was traveling in Europe at the time, played a key role in persuading key senators, including Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), to support Gabbard’s nomination.
