Was Trump The Greatest President Of Your Lifetime?

FEMA Chief Calls Trump A Liar

In a recent interview, Deanne Criswell, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), firmly countered claims made by former President Trump regarding the agency’s response to Hurricane Helene. Trump has asserted that FEMA is lacking sufficient personnel on the ground in affected states and that the federal government’s recovery aid is inadequate for those suffering from the storm’s impact.

Criswell, in a discussion with CNN’s Kate Bolduan, emphasized the importance of accurate information during disaster recovery. She expressed concern that misleading statements from the Republican presidential nominee could discourage victims from seeking the assistance they are entitled to. “His accusations are completely unfounded,” she stated, stressing that the absence of visible FEMA representatives does not indicate a lack of support. “We have personnel embedded in state emergency operations centers, as well as teams actively assessing neighborhoods and working alongside local officials,” she added.

Highlighting the scale of the federal response, Criswell noted that over 3,400 federal personnel are currently deployed in North Carolina alone, with plans to continue bolstering resources for ongoing recovery efforts. Despite Trump’s claims of a “weak” federal response, Criswell reassured the public that the government is dedicated to addressing both immediate needs and long-term recovery.

Trump’s comments included a misleading assertion about the aid available to hurricane survivors, suggesting that FEMA would provide only $750 to those affected. Criswell clarified that this amount pertains solely to immediate relief, while additional resources are available for comprehensive recovery.

Criswell urged a more constructive dialogue, warning that unfounded rhetoric could instill fear among those in need, potentially preventing them from applying for critical support. In response to the wave of misinformation, FEMA has launched a dedicated website, “Hurricane Helene: Rumor Response,” to clarify facts and outline the various types of disaster aid available. The agency is committed to ensuring that affected residents have clear guidance on how to access the assistance they need.
