Bragg Refusing To Drop Trump Case?
Acting State Supreme Court Justice Juan M. Merchan faces a critical decision regarding the conviction in the case against President-elect Donald Trump. Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz recently spoke out, urging Merchan to either dismiss the case or allow it to be appealed, rather than allowing the conviction to linger for years without resolution. Dershowitz told Newsmax that the current situation, in which Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has agreed to delay sentencing until after Trump leaves office, is unfair and politically motivated.
Dershowitz argued that Bragg’s strategy is essentially to keep the conviction hanging over Trump’s head, potentially damaging his reputation, especially when traveling abroad. “Every time President Trump travels internationally, the shadow of this conviction will follow him,” said Dershowitz. This tactic, he explained, aims to prevent Trump from appealing the case—an effort he sees as an intentional move to block a reversal on appeal.
According to Dershowitz, Bragg’s real goal is to use the conviction to bolster his own political career. Dershowitz claimed Bragg’s willingness to delay the sentencing is part of a broader effort to maintain leverage over Trump, creating a scenario where he can campaign on the promise of having successfully pursued a case against the former president. However, Dershowitz described the case itself as “unethical, immoral, illegal, and unconstitutional,” especially given that the statute of limitations had expired.
He further criticized Bragg for his lack of legal justification and suggested that congressional hearings should be convened to investigate how such a case was even brought forward. “I would be happy to testify,” said Dershowitz, adding that he could gather legal experts to confirm that the case never should have been pursued.
As for the future, Dershowitz expressed confidence in Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for Attorney General. Bondi, a former Florida Attorney General, is known for her legal acumen and commitment to justice. Dershowitz, who worked closely with Bondi during Trump’s first impeachment, praised her independence and her ability to balance loyalty to the president with the integrity of the legal system. He believes she would be an outstanding choice for the role, capable of managing the challenges ahead with both professionalism and political wisdom.
Ultimately, Dershowitz’s remarks underscore his belief that the legal system must be above politics. He warned that using the courts to settle political scores undermines the rule of law and damages the public’s faith in the justice system. The case against Trump, he asserts, is a prime example of how political agendas can warp the legal process.
“Should Trump Fire Everyone In The DOJ Who Prosecuted Him?”
YES, he should!! now, i know if he does prosecute them, the left will scream bloody murder about him politicizing his office, BUT, if a person violates the law, they deserve to face the music. those in the so-called “DOJ” that were/are involved in prosecuting President Trump have violated MANY LAWS and as such should NOT get off scott-free. firing and prosecuting them is NOT sour grapes on the President’s part. it IS an attempt to seek justice. something the “DOJ” fails to honor.
