Trump Says Democrats Weaponized The Justice System, Is He Right?

Gabbard Gets Much Needed Support

On Monday, Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) made a key announcement in support of Tulsi Gabbard for the position of Director of National Intelligence (DNI), providing a significant boost to her confirmation prospects. Collins, a pivotal swing vote on the Senate Intelligence Committee, had previously voiced concerns about Gabbard’s nomination. However, after careful consideration, she signaled her full support, citing Gabbard’s vision for a streamlined, more effective DNI office.

Collins’ endorsement is especially crucial as the Intelligence Committee is scheduled to meet this Tuesday to review Gabbard’s nomination. Gabbard, the former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, has faced scrutiny over her views on national security and her stance on high-profile issues like Edward Snowden. Collins acknowledged that these concerns had been addressed during her discussions with Gabbard, both in private and during the formal hearings.

In her statement, Collins emphasized that Gabbard shares her belief that the Office of the DNI has grown too large and should be scaled back to its original design. “After extensive consideration of her nomination,” Collins remarked, “I will support Tulsi Gabbard to be the Director of National Intelligence. The Office of the DNI has become far larger than it was designed to be, and Ms. Gabbard shares my vision of returning the agency to its intended size.”

Collins also expressed satisfaction with Gabbard’s responses to her concerns regarding Snowden, stating that Gabbard had “addressed my concerns regarding her views on Edward Snowden” during their discussions.

With Collins now backing the nominee, all eyes turn to Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), another Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee. Young has previously expressed frustration with Gabbard’s answers on Snowden, making him a critical vote in determining whether Gabbard’s nomination will move forward. Despite recent tension, support from Collins puts Gabbard in a strong position to secure a vote on the Senate floor.
