Despite Porter’s objections, Schiff emerged victorious in the primary, securing substantial support. He recounted a gracious phone call from Porter following her defeat, emphasizing the camaraderie despite the competitive nature of politics.
The California primary, held on Super Tuesday, utilized a “jungle” system where candidates from all parties compete, with the top two advancing to the general election. Schiff, alongside Republican contender Steve Garvey, emerged as one of the top two vote-getters.
Regarding accusations that his campaign aided Garvey’s rise by attacking other Democratic contenders, Schiff suggested that Democratic unity would have been more beneficial. He emphasized the importance of Democrats channeling their resources towards winning over seats rather than engaging in intra-party conflicts.
The Senate race in California, characterized by high stakes and intense competition, stood out as one of the most expensive of the 2024 cycle. With California being a Democratic stronghold, Schiff holds a significant advantage heading into the general election.

He advocated for limiting Trump’s access to sensitive information, citing allegations of mishandling classified material.
