Top Democrat Sides With Trump
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, recently met with Tom Homan, the incoming “border czar” under President-elect Donald Trump. After their meeting, Adams revealed that despite their political differences, they share a common goal: tackling violent crime in American cities and protecting law-abiding citizens.
At a press conference following the meeting, Adams stated, “His goal is the same goal I have. We cannot allow dangerous individuals to commit repeated acts of violence in our cities.” He went on to emphasize that cities like New York cannot become sanctuaries for violent criminals.
While Adams has consistently supported immigrant communities, he’s also raised concerns about undocumented migrants with criminal records. New York City has seen a surge in migrant arrivals in recent years, especially in 2022 and 2023. This influx, coupled with rising crime rates, has led Adams to request more federal support to ensure public safety.
Adams specifically praised Homan, the former head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for his shared commitment to going after violent criminals, regardless of their immigration status. “From what I heard from the incoming head of ICE, we have the same desire to go after those committing violent acts,” Adams said, expressing satisfaction that their priorities aligned.
Homan, who was tapped by Trump to lead immigration efforts in his second term, echoed these sentiments in a subsequent interview with Dr. Phil. Homan clarified that the Trump administration’s enforcement strategy would not involve indiscriminate sweeps or military-style operations. Instead, it would focus on “targeted enforcement” of individuals involved in violent crimes, human trafficking, and forced labor.
Both Adams and Homan agree that keeping violent criminals off the streets is critical to protecting communities. Homan added, “Criminals need to be taken off the streets to protect our communities, and children need to be kept safe from sex trafficking and forced labor.”
As the Biden administration continues to struggle with border enforcement, it’s clear that a tougher, more targeted approach is gaining traction among both local leaders and federal authorities. For Republicans, the growing alignment between Adams and Homan on this issue serves as a reminder that public safety must always come first—no matter where you stand on immigration policy.
