Biden, The Top Choice Of Republicans?
In a strange turn of events, polls indicate that more Republicans have given their approval of President Joe Biden’s job performance than at any other point since he took office.
According to Newsweek, YouGov’s approval ratings tracker for President Biden, which is updated regularly, reveals that as of May 9, more than 18% of Republicans think that the Democrat is performing well as the President of the United States.
On April 25th, YouGov conducted a poll that demonstrated 19% of GOP voters approved of President Biden’s job in the White House. Similarly, on January 10th, there was a similar high number of Republican voters who approved of the President’s job performance, with a percentage of 17.8.
The positive polling numbers from Republican voters could be advantageous for President Biden, as he has announced his intention to run for re-election in 2024 and is highly likely to secure the Democratic nomination.
During a significant portion of President Biden’s tenure, his approval ratings have been low, coupled with his age and surveys indicating that voters do not wish for him to run for president again, causing apprehension about his likelihood of success in the next election.
According to the YouGov approval rating, President Biden has gained the support of more Republican voters over the last few months than at any other point during his presidency. The last time over 17% of Republicans approved of his job performance was in April and May of 2021.
If the YouGov approval polls can translate into actual votes in the 2024 presidential election, it implies that President Biden could potentially win over GOP voters, a feat that the current front-runner for the Republican nomination, Donald Trump, may struggle to accomplish with Democratic voters.
