More Details Emerge About Pelosi’s Injury

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) recently shared details about former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) fall while on a congressional trip to Luxembourg. Speaking with reporters on Capitol Hill, McCaul explained that Pelosi had been wearing high heels when she lost her footing on a marble staircase that lacked a railing, leading to her fall.

“She’s doing well,” McCaul said of Pelosi’s condition, adding that she had been wearing very high heels when the incident occurred. He noted that it happened on one of her final steps on the staircase, causing her to lose balance and fall. McCaul, who was on the trip with Pelosi, quickly came to her aid, helping her up after the fall.

Pelosi, who is 84, underwent successful hip replacement surgery following the incident. Her spokesperson, Ian Krager, confirmed that Pelosi was recovering well and expressed gratitude for the medical care she received, both from the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg. McCaul, who was seen in a photo gripping Pelosi’s hand after helping her, mentioned that despite the fall, she seemed upbeat and in good spirits.

“She’s 84, but when I talked to her on the phone, she had a lot of energy. She’s very spunky,” McCaul said, expressing his well wishes for her recovery. He also mentioned that Pelosi was eager to return home and had already made plans to fly back to the U.S. after her surgery.

Pelosi’s office reiterated that she is making steady progress and continues to work despite the setback. “Speaker Pelosi is well on the mend and continues to receive a great deal of support and sympathy from friends and colleagues,” Krager added. McCaul, a Texas Republican, closed his remarks by wishing Pelosi a quick recovery and noted that while her fall was concerning, she is now in stable condition and looking forward to resuming her normal activities.
