Democrats Say Trump Playing Politics Over LA Fire, Is He?

Trump’s Controversial Message To Newsom

In a recent post on Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump blasted California Governor Gavin Newsom for his failure to manage the state’s water resources amid devastating wildfires. Trump called for Newsom to “open up the water main” to help combat the fires sweeping through Los Angeles and other areas of the state, demanding that the governor release water into the parched, fire-ravaged regions instead of letting it flow into the Pacific Ocean.

Trump didn’t mince words in his criticism, accusing Newsom of incompetence and insisting that the governor stop making excuses. “It’s already far too late!” Trump wrote, emphasizing that action was needed immediately to save lives and prevent further destruction. The president-elect also pointed to Newsom’s mishandling of the state’s resources as a key factor in the worsening situation.

In addition to the water issue, Trump continued his fiery rhetoric, saying that California, “one of the best and most beautiful parts of the United States of America,” is being reduced to ashes under Newsom’s leadership. The president-elect even went as far as to call for Newsom’s resignation, saying that the wildfires were “his fault.” Trump’s comments came as reports confirmed that the fires have killed at least five people and burned vast swaths of land in the region.

The Pacific Palisades fire, which is still raging near Los Angeles, has consumed nearly 27 square miles, while the Eaton fire, north of Pasadena, has burned another 17 square miles. In addition to these large blazes, smaller fires have popped up across the state, complicating firefighting efforts.

Trump also criticized California’s current water regulations, which restrict water pumping to protect the endangered smelt fish. He argued that the state’s priority should be saving lives, not protecting fish, and again demanded that Newsom allow more water to flow into California to help manage the crisis.

While Newsom has defended his leadership, pointing to the massive destruction and human toll caused by the fires, he secured FEMA aid for the state to assist with recovery efforts. However, Trump’s words reflect the growing frustration among many conservatives who see Newsom’s policies as exacerbating the crisis and putting lives at risk.
