Tom Homan Issues Warning To Democrats
Tom Homan, the incoming border czar under the Trump administration, sent a clear message to Democratic leaders who are threatening to oppose his efforts to enforce immigration laws: “Game on.”
In a recent interview with Newsmax, Homan emphasized that the new administration’s priority will be the removal of individuals who pose a threat to public safety. “We’re focusing on the worst of the worst—those who have committed crimes, are fugitives, or threaten national security,” Homan said. He challenged Democrat mayors and governors, including Maura Healey of Massachusetts, Gavin Newsom of California, and J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, who have vowed to block deportations, asking: “What elected official doesn’t want public safety threats removed from their communities?”
Some Democratic leaders, like Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, have taken a more extreme stance, even calling for direct opposition to federal enforcement efforts. Johnston recently suggested that Denver police officers may physically block federal agents from carrying out deportation operations, comparing the situation to China’s Tiananmen Square protests. Though he later walked back his comments, Johnston made it clear that he would encourage protests against deportations and is willing to face jail time to stop what he deems “unjust” actions.
Homan, however, made it clear that these leaders have a duty to protect their citizens. “Their number one responsibility is to keep their people safe. If they want to stand in the way of keeping their communities safe, they need to step aside,” he said. “And if they cross the line, they’re committing a crime by harboring or shielding illegal immigrants.”
Homan laid out the administration’s three main priorities: securing the border, conducting mass deportations of individuals with criminal backgrounds, and locating the thousands of missing children who were released into the U.S. under the current administration. He criticized the Biden administration for its leniency on immigration and for violating court orders, such as releasing millions of illegal immigrants through misuse of the parole system.
While facing scrutiny from the media and liberal politicians, Homan remained steadfast. “We’re not going to be bullied or silenced,” he said. “We’re doing this job to restore law and order. If people want to protest, that’s their right, but they need to understand that protecting the safety of American citizens is the priority.”
Homan also urged illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the U.S. before formal deportation orders are issued. “If you leave voluntarily, you may return legally and avoid a 20-year bar from reentry. It’s the right thing to do for yourself and for the country,” he explained.
Under President Trump, Homan said, immigration laws will be enforced firmly and fairly, prioritizing the safety of American citizens and the integrity of the nation’s immigration system.
