How Men Are Protesting Texas Abortion Laws

This is very interesting.

In an attempt to protest the new Texas abortion laws passed by Republican Governor Greg Abbott and other Republicans, men across the country are now voluntarily getting vasectomies as an act of “love” for their female partners.

According to the Washington Examiner, Dr. Koushik Shaw at the Austin Urology Institute in Texas claimed that scheduled vasectomies increased by 15% following the ban which was enacted on September 1st.

Dr. Shaw further explained that the operations began to become more requested immediately after the ban went into place.

Shaw further explained that because of Gov. Abbott’s move to place laws on abortions, the men openly admitted that it impacted their decisions more when it came to family planning.

“So that was a new one for me as a reason — the first time, patients are citing a state law as their motivating factor,” Shaw explained.

The current law which was signed into affect in May says that medical workers and abortion clinics are restricted from performing abortions if a fetal heartbeat for the unborn child is detected. However, the law does provide exceptions for emergency situations.

Urologist Doug Stein describes the decision for men to get vasectomies as “an act of love.”
