Here’s what happened.
Former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is taking aim at prominent Trump supporter Laura Loomer, opening another bitter feud inside the MAGA movement as Republicans face growing questions about divisions within their own ranks.
Greene, once one of President Donald Trump’s most outspoken allies in Congress, condemned Loomer over inflammatory comments she posted on social media about Florida Democratic state Rep. Angie Nixon, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
While Greene stressed that she does not support Nixon or the Democratic Party, she said Republicans should not remain silent when political rhetoric crosses the line.
Greene wrote on social media that she completely condemns Loomer’s remarks, describing them as hateful, offensive, and racist.
Greene then directly connected the controversy to Trump and the current direction of the MAGA movement.
She argued that this reflects what Trump’s MAGA movement and the Republican Party have become, adding that she wants no part of it.
The remarkable exchange puts two well-known figures on the political right against each other and underscores just how dramatically Greene’s relationship with Trump has changed.
Greene Says Loomer Is Hurting Republicans
Greene did more than condemn Loomer’s remarks.
She argued that Loomer’s behavior could have real political consequences for Republicans trying to win elections.
Greene specifically pointed to Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, who is facing Nixon in Florida’s Senate race.
According to Greene, controversial personal attacks from high-profile Trump supporters could become an unnecessary liability for Republican candidates.
“Loomer hurts Republican Senator Ashley Moody in her race with these vicious attacks,” Greene wrote.
Greene also accused Loomer of repeatedly damaging the Republican Party while maintaining influence within Trump’s political orbit.
For Republican voters, the dispute raises a larger question: Should the GOP spend its time fighting internal battles, or focus its attention on issues such as inflation, immigration, government spending, public safety and national security?
Those kitchen-table concerns could ultimately matter far more to voters than another political feud on social media.
Loomer Fires Back
Loomer quickly responded to Greene and showed no signs of backing down.
Rather than apologizing, she accused the former Georgia congresswoman of hypocrisy and brought up Greene’s previous association with controversial political figure Milo Yiannopoulos.
Yiannopoulos previously worked as an intern for Greene and was recently detained by immigration authorities before being deported to the United Kingdom.
Loomer claimed Greene knew about controversies surrounding Yiannopoulos but continued associating with him.
She also pushed back against the idea that her statements should be treated as official Trump administration rhetoric.
“I don’t work for the White House or President Trump,” Loomer wrote. “I am free to say whatever I want.”
That distinction is significant.
Loomer is a vocal Trump supporter and has attracted attention because of her political influence, but she is not a White House employee. Greene, however, argues that Trump and the Republican Party bear responsibility for continuing to give Loomer access and influence.
The result is a dispute not only over what Loomer said, but also over who gets to represent the MAGA movement.
Immigration Dispute Adds Another Layer
The feud also involves Yiannopoulos and his recent removal from the United States.
Loomer has taken credit for reporting information about him to federal authorities.
White House border czar Tom Homan said Sunday that numerous people had contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement about Yiannopoulos and indicated Loomer was probably among those who provided information.
Loomer used the episode to turn Greene’s accusations back against her.
She accused Greene of being responsible for her own political associations while rejecting Greene’s criticism of her loyalty to Trump and the Republican movement.
What began as an argument over one social media post has therefore expanded into a much broader fight involving immigration, personal loyalties and influence inside Trump’s political coalition.
Greene’s Relationship With Trump Has Changed Dramatically
Perhaps the most significant part of the story is who is making the criticism.
Greene was once considered one of Trump’s most dependable supporters in Congress.
The Georgia Republican defended Trump through numerous political controversies and became one of the most recognizable figures associated with the MAGA wing of the Republican Party.
That relationship eventually fell apart.
One of the major sources of tension was Greene’s criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of records associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Greene demanded greater transparency and publicly expressed frustration with the administration.
Trump responded aggressively as the disagreement became increasingly personal, eventually referring to his former ally as “Marjorie Traitor Brown.”
It was an extraordinary reversal for two Republicans who had spent years on the same side of many of Washington’s biggest political fights.
Greene Continues Challenging Trump
Greene resigned from Congress in January, but she has hardly disappeared from national politics.
Instead, she has continued criticizing Trump and his administration on several major issues.
Her complaints have included the cost of living, inflation and the war involving Iran.
That has placed Greene in an unusual position.
She continues to embrace many of the populist ideas that originally fueled the MAGA movement while simultaneously arguing that Trump’s current political operation has moved away from some of those priorities.
Her criticism of Loomer now adds another issue to that growing list of disagreements.
A Bigger Fight Over the Future of MAGA
The Greene-Loomer feud may ultimately be about more than two conservative personalities trading accusations online.
It reflects a larger debate taking place among Republicans over what the MAGA movement should look like going forward.
For many conservative voters, especially those concerned about household expenses, retirement security, immigration, taxes, crime and America’s involvement in overseas conflicts, personal political battles may rank far below the issues affecting their families.
That creates a potential problem for Republicans.
Every day spent debating personalities and social media controversies is a day when attention can be pulled away from the economy, the border, federal spending and other issues the party would rather put before voters.
Greene appears to be making that argument from outside Congress.
Loomer, meanwhile, is making clear that she will not allow Greene’s attacks to go unanswered.
Republican Infighting Isn’t Going Away
The most striking aspect of this latest confrontation may be how dramatically political alliances have shifted.
Not long ago, few Republicans were more closely identified with Trump than Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Today, Greene is publicly accusing Trump’s political circle of tolerating behavior she believes is harmful to the Republican Party.
Loomer is responding by questioning Greene’s credibility and political loyalties.
For conservative voters, there is a larger issue worth watching beyond the personalities involved.
Republicans will have to decide whether internal MAGA battles strengthen the movement by forcing difficult debates into the open — or weaken it by distracting from the economic, immigration and national security concerns that helped put Trump and Republicans in power.
Either way, the political friendship between Trump and Greene that once appeared nearly unbreakable is clearly a thing of the past.
