Whoa! This was out of line.
Trump border czar Tom Homan is pushing back after a Texas Democrat candidate sparked controversy with comments aimed at ICE officers.
Speaking during an appearance on Fox News, Homan dismissed the remarks and said the Trump administration will continue enforcing immigration laws despite criticism from political opponents.
“I’m tired of the threats from radical politicians,” Homan said. “We’re going to keep doing our jobs and protecting this country.”
The controversy began after Texas congressional candidate Maureen Galindo shared a social media post discussing plans for the Karnes ICE Detention Center if she were elected to Congress. The post included statements about former ICE officers and more that quickly generated backlash online.
Galindo is currently competing in a Democratic primary runoff in Texas.
Galindo said she wants to close ICE detention facilities and pursue legal action against individuals she believes are connected to immigration detention systems.
Homan, however, said the criticism will not stop the administration’s border enforcement efforts.
“You can threaten lawsuits or investigations all you want,” Homan said. “We are still going to enforce immigration law and secure the border.”
Homan also praised President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, arguing they have helped strengthen border security and reduce illegal crossings.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we have seen major improvements at the southern border,” Homan said. “Law enforcement officers are continuing to work every day to keep American communities safe.”
The remarks from Galindo drew criticism from both Republicans and Democrats. Several prominent Democrats reportedly distanced themselves from her campaign, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Galindo later accused Democratic Party leadership of trying to damage her campaign in order to help her runoff opponent, former sheriff’s deputy Johnny Garcia.
The dispute highlights the growing political divide over immigration enforcement as border security remains one of the top issues heading into the upcoming election cycle.
Why This Story Matters
Immigration and border security continue to rank among the most important concerns for many American voters. Supporters of President Trump argue that stronger enforcement policies are necessary to restore order at the southern border and protect national security.
Critics, meanwhile, continue to challenge the administration’s approach, setting up what is expected to remain a major political battle in the months ahead.
