First Lady Melania Trump has always preferred privacy over publicity, even while standing beside one of the most watched presidents in American history.

But in a rare and revealing interview, Melania offered Americans a behind-the-scenes look at how she advises President Donald Trump during a time of deep national division — and why she believes his leadership is restoring safety and order to the country.

Speaking with FOX Business host Maria Bartiromo ahead of the January 30 release of her new documentary, Melania, the first lady explained why she agreed to allow cameras into her life during the inauguration period — but only under strict conditions.

“Everyone knows I’m a very private and selective person,” Melania said on Mornings with Maria, making it clear that she carefully protects her personal life from public intrusion.

During the interview, Bartiromo pointed to a key moment in the documentary where Melania encourages the president to act as a unifying force during a time of intense political tension. Asked how that advice plays out behind closed doors, the first lady revealed that their conversations are candid and focused on the country’s challenges.

“I give him my advice, and we talk about it,” Melania said. “We see how divided the country is. No matter what he says, many people don’t want to listen. There is a lot of pushback, and I hope it stops.”

When asked how President Trump can bring Americans together, Melania didn’t hesitate. She said she believes he is already doing exactly that — particularly through his focus on public safety, border enforcement, and restoring order.

“I believe he’s doing an excellent job and achieving real results,” she said. “He brings people together. He’s optimistic, focused on the future, and committed to restoring order so Americans can live safely and freely.”

Public safety, Melania emphasized, is central to that vision. She said Americans deserve to feel secure in their own neighborhoods — something she believes was damaged by years of weak leadership and lax border policies.

“He wants a country where people can walk down the street without fear,” she said. “A few years ago, many criminals came over the border. He closed the border, and now we need to take care of our citizens.”

The interview also included a lighter, more personal moment when Melania admitted she doesn’t always watch the president on television — not because she isn’t supportive, but because she’s constantly working.

“I can’t sit in front of the TV,” she said. “I have work to do. I travel, I work, and I focus on my responsibilities.”

Her comments offered a rare glimpse into a first lady who prefers working quietly behind the scenes rather than seeking attention in front of cameras.

“It’s important to speak when it truly matters,” Melania said. “Be true to yourself. Don’t perform for the cameras. That’s the best way.”

For many supporters, the interview confirms what they already believe: Melania Trump may stay out of the spotlight, but her influence — and her steady guidance — plays a meaningful role behind the scenes as President Trump works to restore safety, unity, and confidence in America.
