Trump has made history again.

President Donald J. Trump reignited national pride this week by signing a powerful new proclamation honoring Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to celebrating America’s origins and rejecting left-wing efforts to rewrite history.

The White House erupted in applause as President Trump proudly signed the 2025 Columbus Day Proclamation ahead of the national holiday. “Today, we have your Columbus Day proclamation,” said White House staff secretary Will Scharf, noting the explorer’s legacy as “a great Italian pioneer who opened the door to the New World in 1492.”

Smiling, Trump declared, “In other words, we’re calling it Columbus Day!” His comment drew laughter and applause from the room. “Even the press clapped,” Trump joked. “I’ve never seen that before. Columbus Day is back — and so are the Italians!”

For millions of Italian Americans, Columbus Day has long symbolized faith, courage, and the spirit of exploration that helped build the greatest nation on Earth. Established as a federal holiday in 1971, it honors not just one man, but the pursuit of discovery and freedom that defines the American dream.

Yet in recent years, that tradition has come under attack. Left-wing activists and Democrat politicians have tried to erase Columbus’s legacy, replacing it with so-called “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.” Statues were torn down during the 2020 riots, and liberal leaders like Kamala Harris openly condemned Columbus as a symbol of “colonialism.”

Harris claimed in 2021 that European explorers “ushered in devastation,” saying Americans should “not shy away from this shameful past.” Critics blasted her comments as another example of the Biden administration’s obsession with guilt and division instead of pride and unity.

President Trump’s proclamation sends a clear message: America will not cancel its history.

“Columbus’s courage and determination helped shape the foundation of Western civilization,” the statement reads. “His journey represents the bold and adventurous spirit that built this country — one we must never forget.”

Trump also signed a companion proclamation recognizing Leif Erikson Day on October 9, honoring the Viking explorer who reached North America centuries before Columbus — a celebration of exploration, courage, and Western achievement.

As applause filled the room, Trump once again reminded the nation why his presidency continues to inspire hope and pride among patriotic Americans: “We love our history. We love our heroes. And yes — we love Columbus Day!”
