Trump Makes Another Late Night Host Lose It
In a stunning outburst, former Late Show host David Letterman lashed out at CBS and its parent company, Paramount Global, after the network announced it would cancel The Late Show in 2026 — ending a 30-year run.
But instead of blaming falling ratings or late-night’s tired liberal shtick, Letterman pointed fingers at CBS’s recent $16 million legal settlement with President Trump’s administration and its merger with Skydance Media — calling the move “gutless.”
“This is gutless,” Letterman ranted during a recorded conversation with two former producers. “I only wish this could happen to me. It would’ve been great for me.”
The former host’s comments reflect growing anger among media elites as Trump continues to challenge their dominance — both in politics and in legacy media. Letterman’s tirade targeted tech billionaire Larry Ellison and his son David, who are expected to take over the new Paramount after the merger is finalized next month.
“These guys are bottom feeders. That’s exactly what this is,” Letterman said, attacking the Ellisons for what he sees as corporate consolidation and political appeasement. “They don’t want to be hassled by the United States government.”
Letterman also slammed CBS for settling with President Trump after he sued over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris during the 2024 election — calling it “pure cowardice.” But many conservative Americans see it as long-overdue accountability for a media giant that has spent years pushing partisan narratives.
While CBS claims the cancellation is strictly a “financial decision,” Letterman and his fellow late-night comedians — including Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Jon Stewart — are treating current host Stephen Colbert as a victim.
“Stephen’s a martyr,” Letterman said. “We’ve all got to kiss his ring now.”
Trump Fires Back — and Hits a Nerve
President Trump wasted no time weighing in. In a viral post on Truth Social, he celebrated the show’s cancellation:
“I’m thrilled Colbert got the axe — his so-called talent couldn’t even keep up with his dismal ratings.”
Colbert, known for his profanity-laced anti-Trump monologues, responded with vulgarity rather than wit:
“How dare you, sir. Do you really think someone without talent could come up with this brilliant piece of satire: ‘Go f— yourself’?”
The Bottom Line:
Once a home for true late-night entertainment, CBS has become yet another casualty of its own political bias and collapsing ratings. As big media scrambles to restructure under pressure from the Trump-led America First agenda, Hollywood elites like Letterman are lashing out — not because they’re victims, but because they’re losing their grip on the culture.
