Trump Places Who On Leave?
In a sweeping move to slash government waste, the Trump administration has placed most AmeriCorps employees on administrative leave with pay, signaling another bold step toward shrinking the size and scope of the federal government.
AmeriCorps Under Scrutiny for Taxpayer-Funded Inefficiency
AmeriCorps, a federally operated program that pays volunteers to participate in community service, has long been criticized for its lack of accountability and bloated overhead. Despite being marketed as a feel-good public service initiative, many conservatives argue it has become a costly burden on American taxpayers.
On Wednesday, AmeriCorps’ interim CEO Jennifer Bastress Tahmasebi announced via internal email that the majority of staff were being placed on “excused absence” effective immediately.
“During this time, you are not to access AmeriCorps property, systems, or exercise any authority related to the agency without direct permission,” Tahmasebi stated.
Trump Administration Moves to Shut Down Redundant Programs
Only a small number of staff remain to assist in winding down the agency’s operations, according to Bloomberg. This effort mirrors the Trump-led shutdown of the controversial U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a move widely praised by fiscal conservatives for eliminating foreign spending with minimal results.
The announcement came just one day after members of the agency’s disaster relief program, the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), were abruptly sent home from their yearlong service missions.
Musk-Backed Watchdog Cracks Down on Bureaucracy
Sources confirmed that officials from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — a task force focused on eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse — were recently seen at AmeriCorps headquarters.
DOGE was launched with the backing of tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, a staunch supporter of streamlining federal operations and refocusing resources on American priorities.
Americans Applaud Common-Sense Cuts
While AmeriCorps and White House spokespeople declined immediate comment, many Americans see the move as a positive step toward fiscal responsibility. Under President Trump’s leadership, the federal government is being pushed to serve the people efficiently — not drain their wallets.
Bottom line: More taxpayer dollars are staying where they belong — in the pockets of hardworking Americans.
