Trump isn’t playing games.
In a stunning move to combat the ongoing border crisis, President Donald Trump has officially authorized the U.S. military to take command of key federal lands along the southern border—an aggressive step aimed at stopping the surge of illegal immigration and securing America’s territorial sovereignty.
The order, issued Friday evening, directs the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Interior, and Agriculture to coordinate what’s being called a “Military Mission for Sealing the Southern Border and Repelling Invasions.” This mission gives the Pentagon operational authority over the Roosevelt Reservation, a crucial federal buffer zone that spans California, Arizona, and New Mexico.
“Our southern border is under attack from a wide range of threats,” President Trump said. “This mission demands immediate action from our armed forces.”
Military Declares “National Defense Areas” Along U.S.-Mexico Border
The plan designates portions of federal land as National Defense Areas, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth overseeing military operations. Activities will include border wall construction, deployment of advanced monitoring and detection systems, and enhanced troop presence in known illegal entry zones.
Importantly, Native American lands are exempt from this order.
This bold action follows a series of hardline executive orders signed by Trump upon his return to the White House, including the reinstatement of the national emergency declaration over border security. Federal troops are already working hand-in-hand with state troopers and National Guard units to deter unlawful crossings.
Illegal Border Crossings Plummet Under Trump’s Renewed Policies
According to Border Patrol data, illegal crossings have dropped dramatically since President Trump re-entered office. In March, just 7,200 crossings were recorded—down from a monthly average of 155,000 during the prior administration’s lax border policies.
This dramatic decrease underscores the effectiveness of Trump’s immigration enforcement strategy, which remains wildly popular among American voters, especially in border states like Texas and Arizona.
Border Wall Construction Accelerates with New DHS Waivers
Adding to the momentum, the Department of Homeland Security this week issued its first waiver to expedite wall construction, a key Trump campaign promise dating back nearly a decade. The administration’s goal is clear: finish the wall, secure the border, and put American safety first.
This is a pivotal moment in the fight to restore law and order at our nation’s doorstep—and Trump is proving once again that he’s willing to take decisive, unapologetic action to protect the American people.
