Democrats Begin DNC Restructuring

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) recently endorsed Wisconsin state party chair Ben Wikler in the race for the position of Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair. Jeffries expressed his belief that Wikler is the best candidate to lead the party moving forward, pointing to his strong commitment to working families, his focus on lowering costs for American taxpayers, and his ability to unite a broad coalition of supporters. Jeffries also highlighted Wikler’s track record in Wisconsin, where he has successfully organized campaigns in a competitive state, emphasizing that his leadership could help energize the Democratic base while also appealing to swing voters.

Wikler, in response to Jeffries’ endorsement, expressed gratitude and reiterated his goal of unifying the Democratic Party. He outlined his vision of fighting for working people across the country and achieving success in elections at every level. Wikler also emphasized that he was committed to helping Jeffries become the next Speaker of the House in 2026.

Alongside Jeffries, Wikler has secured endorsements from other prominent Democratic figures, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). However, the contest remains competitive with Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) supporting Minnesota’s Ken Martin for DNC chair.

The final decision on who will lead the DNC will be made on Saturday, when 448 committee members vote. Wikler, Martin, and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley are considered the frontrunners, and each will need a majority of the votes to succeed Jaime Harrison as the next DNC chair.
