Democrats Spread Rumors About Musk And Trump
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) made waves this week when he claimed that Elon Musk is essentially running the show in the Trump administration, suggesting that the tech mogul has more control over the GOP’s direction than former President Donald Trump himself. In a Thursday appearance on MSNBC, Goldman argued that Musk was the one calling the shots, particularly in opposing the government funding measure put forward by House Republicans.
Goldman’s comments were a direct shot at the growing influence of Musk within conservative circles. The billionaire entrepreneur has become a vocal critic of big government spending, calling the 1,500-page funding bill that House Republicans introduced a “piece of pork.” Musk took to social media to urge GOP lawmakers to reject the bill, signaling that the current status quo of government waste is something the Republican Party must confront. Later in the day, Trump echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that Congress should pass a clean continuing resolution, but the proposal was swiftly rejected.
Despite these criticisms from both Musk and Trump, Goldman doubled down on his claim, declaring that “we have President Elon Musk” and that Trump’s role is reduced to something like a vice president or chief of staff, essentially irrelevant in the decision-making process. This, of course, is a deeply misguided view of how the Republican Party operates under Trump’s leadership.
Trump’s team swiftly rebutted Goldman’s remarks, pointing to the undeniable reality that Trump remains the leader of the GOP. Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the Trump campaign, stated that once Trump voiced his position on the funding resolution, Republicans on Capitol Hill immediately rallied behind him.
While Democrats continue to portray Musk as a behind-the-scenes puppet master, Trump has made it clear that he’s still the one leading the charge. The truth is, Elon Musk’s influence is not about controlling Trump; it’s about aligning with Trump’s vision for a smaller, more efficient government. Musk’s role as co-leader of Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) proves that both men are committed to curbing wasteful spending and reducing the size of the federal bureaucracy—goals that align with the broader conservative movement.
In reality, it’s not Musk who’s calling the shots, but rather Trump, whose leadership continues to guide the Republican Party forward.
