Harris Plagued By Biden’s Failures
Recent polling data reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris currently holds a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump in the race for the presidency. The latest ABC News-Washington Post-Ipsos survey indicates that Harris is ahead of Trump among registered voters by a margin of 49% to 45%. However, this lead masks underlying challenges for Harris and the Democratic Party, as they grapple with several issues that have long troubled them.
Despite her lead in the overall polling, Harris trails Trump on critical issues such as the economy and immigration. Trump enjoys a notable 9% advantage over Harris on economic management, with a score of 46% to 37%. Similarly, Trump leads Harris by 10% on immigration, with 46% compared to 36% for Harris. These figures mirror the problems faced by the Democrats when Joe Biden was the anticipated nominee in previous polls.
Harris does manage to outperform Trump in areas such as healthcare, gun violence, and abortion, similar to Biden’s performance in earlier surveys. Nevertheless, her recent focus on inflation and crime has not translated into a stronger position against Trump. Despite Harris’s efforts to highlight her record as San Francisco’s district attorney and California’s attorney general to bolster her crime-fighting credentials, she still lags behind Trump by 3% on this issue.
Inflation remains another weak spot for Harris, with Trump leading her by a significant 9%. Harris’s recent proposal to address rising prices, which includes measures against price gouging, has faced criticism and comparisons to price controls. This plan has not yet gained the traction needed to shift public opinion in her favor.
As the Democratic National Convention convenes in Chicago this week, Harris and her party will attempt to consolidate their position and rally support for the upcoming election. The first one-on-one debate between Trump and Harris is scheduled for September 10, with a potential second debate in October still under consideration by the Harris campaign. This debate will be a crucial opportunity for Harris to address her vulnerabilities and make her case to the American people.
