Is Trump Right To Say Democrats Becoming Communist?

Trump Official Targeted By Protestors

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth forcefully defended the National Guard Thursday, praising troops for helping restore public safety in Washington while sharply criticizing protesters who attempted to disrupt a Trump administration event.

Speaking at Meridian Hill Park during a D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force gathering, Hegseth thanked National Guard members for their service before calling out demonstrators who interrupted the event with whistles, horns, and amplified shouting.

The event featured several senior Trump administration officials, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who spoke about ongoing efforts to reduce crime, support law enforcement, and improve the nation’s capital.

Protesters Attempt to Disrupt Event

Roughly three dozen “Free DC” protesters gathered near the stage, repeatedly interrupting speakers throughout the event. Demonstrators blasted whistles, air horns, and microphones in an effort to drown out administration officials.

One protester even held a sign reading, “Arrest Hegseth.”

Despite the disruptions, the event continued as planned, with approximately 150 National Guard members standing alongside local law enforcement officers.

Hegseth Thanks National Guard for Their Service

Hegseth began his remarks by expressing gratitude to the troops serving in Washington.

“Thank you for being here. Thank you for standing with us,” he told the Guard members. “Thank you for everything you’re doing and for spending your day out here in the heat.”

He then turned his attention toward the protesters, arguing that their actions reflected political ideology rather than genuine concern for public safety.

“The noise you’re hearing this morning is the sound of ingratitude,” Hegseth said. “Some people are so blinded by ideology that they can’t recognize law, order, and common sense when it’s right in front of them.”

‘Law and Order Benefits Every American’

The defense secretary emphasized that supporting public safety should not be viewed as a partisan issue.

“There’s nothing political about this mission,” Hegseth said. “Every American deserves law and order—whether they’re Black or white, rich or poor, a resident of Washington or someone visiting our nation’s capital.”

He argued that safe streets and strong law enforcement benefit every community regardless of political affiliation.

Trump Administration Expands National Guard Presence

President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of more than 4,000 National Guard troops to Washington as part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing violent crime, supporting local law enforcement, and improving public spaces throughout the city.

Administration officials say the Guard’s presence has helped reinforce public safety efforts while allowing police officers to focus on crime prevention and emergency response.

The deployment is part of Trump’s broader commitment to restoring order in the nation’s capital.

Hegseth Calls Troops the ‘Real One Percent’

During his speech, Hegseth praised the Guard members as America’s true elite because of their willingness to serve the country.

“This city talks a lot about elites,” he said. “But the real one percent are the men and women who raised their right hand to serve this nation when they could have chosen an easier path.”

He continued by thanking the troops for standing alongside law enforcement officers and helping keep Washington safe for residents and visitors alike.

D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force

The event was held as part of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, which President Trump established through a March 2025 executive order.

The initiative directs federal agencies to work together to improve public safety, reduce crime, restore public spaces, and enhance the appearance of the nation’s capital.

Officials say the effort combines stronger law enforcement with neighborhood improvements, park restoration projects, and increased security throughout Washington.

Supporters argue the program is helping make the city cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for families, businesses, and tourists, while critics have questioned the expanded federal role. The administration maintains that improving public safety remains one of its highest priorities.
