Red State Republican Passes Away

Former Florida Congressman Bill Posey passed away Sunday at the age of 78, surrounded by his wife and two daughters after a lifetime devoted to public service, conservative principles, and the people of Florida.

Posey represented Florida in the United States House of Representatives from 2009 to 2025 and earned a reputation as one of the most dependable constitutional conservatives in Washington. His death marks the end of a distinguished career built on integrity, fiscal responsibility, and unwavering support for American values.

Conservative Leaders Mourn a Trusted Patriot

Florida Congressman Mike Haridopolos announced Posey’s passing and praised his extraordinary record of service.

Haridopolos said Posey was widely respected as a principled conservative who fought for lower government spending, greater transparency, and strong support for Florida’s Space Coast and America’s aerospace industry.

Mike Johnson also paid tribute, describing Posey as a faithful friend and true statesman whose love for the country was evident in everything he did.

Johnson said he and his wife, Kelly, were praying for Posey’s family, especially his wife Katie, his high school sweetheart.

Cause of Death Not Released

Posey died at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. His family has not publicly disclosed the cause of death.

From Florida Roots to National Leadership

Born in Washington, Posey built his life and career in Florida. Before serving in Congress, he held positions on his local city council, in the Florida House of Representatives, and in the Florida Senate.

His long record of service helped him develop deep ties throughout his community and a strong understanding of the issues facing working families, seniors, and small business owners.

Elected to Congress in 2008

Posey won election to Congress in 2008 and began serving in January 2009. Over the next 16 years, he represented Florida’s 15th and later 8th Congressional Districts.

Voters repeatedly returned him to office because of his consistent commitment to conservative principles and his willingness to challenge wasteful spending and bureaucratic overreach.

Defender of Fiscal Responsibility and Limited Government

During his time in Congress, Posey served on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

He was also a member of the House Freedom Caucus, where he worked to protect constitutional freedoms, defend taxpayers, and promote individual liberty.

The Freedom Caucus called Posey a statesman whose principled leadership left a lasting mark on the nation.

Strong Supporter of America’s Space Program

Posey’s connection to Florida’s Space Coast ran deep. Before entering politics, he worked for McDonnell Douglas and contributed to Apollo-era work at Kennedy Space Center.

He later founded his own real estate company and used his private-sector experience to advocate for economic growth, innovation, and job creation.

His strong support for the space industry made him a respected voice on issues affecting national security and technological advancement.

Education and Personal Life

Posey earned an Associate of Arts degree from Eastern Florida State College.

He is survived by his wife Katie and their two daughters.

Remembering Bill Posey’s Legacy

Bill Posey will be remembered as a dedicated public servant, constitutional conservative, and steadfast defender of American ideals. Throughout his career, he stood for honest government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and the freedoms that define the United States.

For conservatives across Florida and the nation, Posey’s life serves as a powerful reminder that principled leadership still matters.

His passing is a tremendous loss, but his legacy of service, integrity, and patriotism will endure for generations to come.
