Kamala Hires Hillary’s Team?
Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up for her upcoming debate against former President Donald Trump with a high-profile debate coach: Philippe Reines, who previously served as Hillary Clinton’s debate advisor during the 2016 presidential race.
Harris is preparing for the debate, set for September 10 on ABC, at Howard University, her alma mater. Recently, she engaged in a mock debate session to refine her strategies. Reines, known for his distinctive approach, reportedly adopts a “method actor” style in his preparation. According to the New York Times, Reines takes an immersive approach, dressing in a manner that mimics Trump’s appearance. He reportedly wears lifts to appear taller, uses kneepads to maintain a straight posture, and sports a custom-made oversized suit. Observers even saw him dressed in a long tie and mimicking Trump’s demeanor, describing the former president’s stage presence as akin to a “malfunctioning appliance.”
In contrast, Trump has enlisted former Democratic Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard to emulate Harris. Gabbard’s experience from their 2020 Democratic primary debates provides her with valuable insight into Harris’s debating style and strategies.
Harris’s strategy for the debate will involve distinguishing herself from Trump while articulating her positions on key issues. She aims to address topics ranging from immigration to inflation, reintroducing herself to voters who may not be fully familiar with her record. This approach reflects her intention to clarify her stance on important issues and connect with the electorate.
Harris is keenly aware of the significance of this debate, especially given President Joe Biden’s experience in the 2020 race. Biden’s performance in his debates was widely criticized, and he exited the race shortly after. Harris hopes to avoid a similar fate and strengthen her public image through a successful debate performance against Trump.
