Former President Trump and President Biden both delivered messages of solidarity on Sunday following an assassination attempt on Trump the previous day.

Shortly after President Biden concluded his remarks about the attack, Trump called for unity with a post on his Truth Social account that read “UNITE AMERICA!”

The attack occurred during a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening, where a gunman from a nearby rooftop opened fire. Trump reported that he was struck by a bullet that grazed his ear but was otherwise unharmed. The FBI identified the assailant as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

In his Sunday address, President Biden initiated an independent review of the security measures in place and reiterated his condemnation of the violent act. “This is not representative of who we are as a country; it’s not America, and we must not tolerate this,” he stated.

Trump reinforced his call for unity three minutes after Biden’s speech, at 2:11 p.m., through another post on Truth Social. He emphasized the importance of standing together. “At this critical time, it’s crucial that we remain united, demonstrating the true spirit of Americans by staying strong and resolute, and not letting evil prevail,” Trump expressed. “I deeply love our country and all of you, and I am eager to address our nation later this week from Wisconsin.”

He also announced at 2:09 p.m. that he would proceed to Milwaukee as planned for the Republican National Convention, despite considering a delay. The convention is scheduled to start on Monday and will go ahead as planned.
