Trump Says He Will Flip New York Red, Can He Do It?

Trump’s Message To Mormons

Former President Donald Trump is actively seeking the support of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as Mormons, in key states like Arizona and Nevada. Historically, Mormons have been a solid voting bloc for the Republican Party. However, in recent years, some have shifted their allegiance to the Democrats, influenced by strategic outreach efforts.

Vice President Kamala Harris recently launched the “Latter-day Saints for Harris-Walz” initiative, aimed directly at winning over this community. In response, Trump is intensifying his efforts to reconnect with these voters by hosting prominent Mormon influencers and political figures at his Mar-a-Lago estate. This strategic meeting was designed to galvanize and motivate the LDS vote, recognizing its significance in upcoming elections.

Attendees included well-known figures like the Diesel Brothers stars, Dave Sparks and David Kiley, along with Marlon Bateman, a former State Department official. Bateman has been charged with spearheading a “Latter-day Saints for Trump” fundraising coalition, indicating Trump’s serious commitment to this demographic.

The Trump campaign is also exploring the possibility of organizing a targeted rally in Arizona featuring popular Mormon influencers, demonstrating a keen awareness of the unique dynamics within this voter base. While Trump has garnered the support of many Mormon congressmen—excluding longtime critic Sen. Mitt Romney—he aims to strengthen his ties with the approximately 440,000 Mormons in Arizona and 180,000 in Nevada, where he is in a competitive race against Harris.

Although Mormons traditionally lean Republican, they hold diverse views on various issues, unlike other staunch conservative groups. A recent survey revealed that two-thirds of Mormons believe in fostering diversity, a stark contrast to the views held by many white Evangelicals. Additionally, many in the Mormon community have expressed concerns about Trump’s moral character, which previously hindered his appeal among them during the 2016 election.

As younger generations of Mormons increasingly lean liberal, it’s crucial for Republican candidates to engage with this community meaningfully. Trump’s outreach efforts represent a pivotal opportunity to reclaim and solidify support among voters who have historically aligned with conservative values.
