President Biden’s Border Failure Leaves Americans In Danger

The U.S. Consulate situated in Matamoros, Mexico, has issued an urgent advisory urging residents to remain indoors in response to a recent surge in gun violence on Monday.

According to Fox, the consulate has communicated that their staff members are presently adhering to a shelter-in-place directive due to the escalation of violent criminal activities within the city. They strongly recommend that other U.S. citizens in the area take similar precautions.

In a social media announcement, the U.S. Consulate General Matamoros conveyed, “Our employees at the U.S. Consulate General Matamoros have been instructed to shelter in place until 1:30 PM in response to the ongoing gun violence within the city. We advise residents to also shelter in place and stay informed about local news for updates in their respective areas.”

This recent outbreak of gun violence in Matamoros was triggered by an altercation involving Mexican marines earlier in the week. The confrontation resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals on Monday during a law enforcement investigation into a kidnapping case. Notably, none of the marines were harmed during this incident, and authorities were able to recover firearms and communication devices from the scene.

Matamoros, located just across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas, has witnessed a surge in cartel-related activities and violent crimes in recent years, sparking concerns among both local and international authorities who are working diligently to restore order and combat organized crime.

Tamaulipas, the Mexican state where Matamoros is situated, is one of six Mexican states that the U.S. State Department has issued travel warnings for, specifically cautioning against visiting the region due to the heightened risk of violence targeting American citizens. The advisory reads, “Travel to this area is not recommended due to the prevalence of crime and kidnapping. Organized criminal activities, including armed confrontations, homicides, armed robberies, carjackings, kidnappings, forced disappearances, extortion, and sexual assaults, are common along the northern border and in Ciudad Victoria.”

In an incident earlier this year, four American citizens were abducted in Matamoros. Mexican authorities successfully rescued the survivors from a makeshift facility where they were held against their will on March 7th. Unfortunately, two of the victims had already succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained prior to their abduction.
