Musk Says Trump Will Win
Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and newly appointed head of President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), made a bold statement on social media Monday night, predicting that Trump will successfully achieve the Republican goal of dismantling the Department of Education. Musk expressed confidence that this time, unlike during Reagan’s presidency when the department grew despite efforts to reduce it, Trump would succeed in reducing its influence and power.
While fully eliminating the Department of Education would require action from Congress, President Trump could still take significant steps through executive orders to limit the department’s scope and authority in the meantime. Employees from DOGE are already scrutinizing the department’s operations, with reports indicating that several workers have been placed on administrative leave as part of Trump’s broader push to reduce the presence of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in federal agencies. This move follows Trump’s executive order aimed at purging DEI-related initiatives and personnel from government roles.
The union representing the affected employees has raised concerns, claiming that many of those placed on leave had participated in DEI training during Trump’s first term, which was encouraged by his administration at the time. Despite these objections, the Trump administration is moving forward with its plan to restructure and streamline federal agencies, focusing on reducing their size and influence.
Further action against the Department of Education could be delayed until Linda McMahon, Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education, is confirmed. While no official date has been set for her confirmation hearing, reports suggest that her approval could pave the way for more decisive moves against the department in line with Trump’s vision for a smaller, more localized education system that prioritizes parental control and minimizes federal interference.
