Vance Steps Up To Bat For Hegseth
Vice President-elect JD Vance (R-Ohio) has reaffirmed his strong support for Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Defense, despite growing opposition from some Senate Republicans. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Vance emphasized that both he and President Trump are committed to seeing Hegseth’s nomination through and are actively working to secure a hearing for him before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Vance made the comments during a visit to North Carolina, where he toured areas devastated by Hurricane Helene. He was accompanied by Sens. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.). “Pete Hegseth is the right person to lead the Department of Defense, and that’s why President Trump nominated him,” Vance said. “We are not abandoning this nomination, and we believe he deserves a fair hearing, not a circus trial in the media.”
Hegseth, a former Army veteran and Fox News host, has faced significant scrutiny over allegations of sexual misconduct and other controversial behavior in his past. Despite this, Vance, along with other allies, has worked to rally support for the nominee, urging senators to respect the Senate’s confirmation process. “We don’t make decisions based on anonymous sources or media-driven narratives,” Vance stated, calling on senators to allow the standard confirmation procedures to play out.
While several GOP senators, including Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), have expressed concerns over Hegseth’s past, Vance has been in contact with them, encouraging them to consider the nomination fairly. Ernst, a staunch advocate for combatting sexual assault in the military, has been particularly vocal due to the allegations against Hegseth. However, Vance insisted that Hegseth is fully committed to answering any questions and clearing up the concerns.
Hegseth, undeterred by the controversy, has been meeting with key senators to address their concerns, stressing his dedication to military reform. Though some GOP senators remain hesitant, he can afford only three “no” votes in the Senate’s 53-seat Republican majority to secure his confirmation, assuming all Democrats vote against him.
Despite the challenges, Trump expressed confidence in Hegseth’s prospects, noting on Truth Social that the nominee has strong support. However, it’s clear that the fight for Hegseth’s confirmation is far from over, and both Vance and Trump are standing firm behind him, determined to see the nomination through to the end.
ANYONE that says “NO”, Please feel free to move to a communist country of your choice, and the HELL OUT of MY country.
