Lawmakers Agree Trump Needs More Protection

Rep. Mike Kelly from Pennsylvania emphasized on ABC’s “This Week” that protecting candidates—regardless of their political affiliation—is an American responsibility. “This is not just a Republican issue; it’s about all of us as citizens,” Kelly stated. “We are living in a perilous time, and it’s crucial to remember that the safety of our elected officials is paramount.”

His comments echo the sentiments of other lawmakers who advocate for a consistent standard of protection for all candidates amid heightened political tensions. Rep. Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado, affirmed that while vigorous political debate is essential, there is absolutely no room for violence, whether from the left or the right. “We must unequivocally condemn political violence; it has no place in our society,” Crow said.

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida raised alarms over the apparent erosion of trust in our institutions, particularly concerning the Biden administration’s Justice Department and its handling of political dissent. Rubio highlighted past misconduct within the FBI related to Donald Trump, suggesting that the leadership has been politicized. “The rank-and-file agents are dedicated, but we must question the motives of those at the top,” Rubio cautioned.

He also recalled the infamous letter signed by 51 former intelligence officials before the 2020 election, falsely labeling the Hunter Biden laptop story as “Russian disinformation.” This incident serves as a stark reminder of how some government agencies can be weaponized against political adversaries, eroding public confidence.
