Pelosi Says Biden Healthy But Trump Suffering Mental Decline, Is She Right?

Ocasio-Cortez Files Motion To Impeach Who?

Democrats will not accept even if they are clearly wrong. This is what’s wrong with the government.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York made a significant announcement on Monday, declaring her intention to initiate proceedings for the impeachment of President Donald Trump following a Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.

In a statement posted on her official platform, Ocasio-Cortez criticized the Supreme Court’s decision as indicative of a deep-seated corruption crisis that has spiraled beyond the judiciary’s oversight. She asserted that the ruling, which grants presidents absolute immunity for official acts performed while in office, poses a direct threat to American democratic principles. Emphasizing Congress’s role in safeguarding the nation against what she termed as authoritarian capture, she pledged to introduce articles of impeachment upon the body’s reconvening.

The Supreme Court’s ruling, passed by a 6-3 majority, was seen as a partial victory for President Trump. It solidifies the doctrine of presidential immunity for actions carried out within the scope of official duties. However, dissenting opinions, notably from Justice Sonia Sotomayor, raised alarms by suggesting potential extreme implications, such as immunity extending to acts like political assassinations.

Critics, including MSNBC legal analyst Neal Katyal, condemned the decision, labeling it a “blueprint for undermining the rule of law.” Ocasio-Cortez’s vocal disapproval of the Supreme Court is part of a broader pattern of critique. In recent instances, she accused Justice Clarence Thomas of ethical misconduct, citing reports of substantial gifts received during his tenure. Moreover, she has floated the idea of impeaching justices who she believes deceived the public about their stance on pivotal issues like abortion during confirmation hearings.

The prospect of impeaching a Supreme Court Justice remains a formidable challenge. Since the inception of the United States, only one Supreme Court Justice, Samuel Chase in 1804, faced impeachment, ultimately being acquitted the following year. Another, Abe Fortas, resigned in 1969 amid impeachment threats. Across federal courts, a total of 15 judges have been impeached throughout American history.

Ocasio-Cortez’s stance underscores her proactive approach in Congress, challenging legal norms and advocating for accountability within the judiciary. Her proposed actions reflect broader debates over judicial integrity and the balance of power within American governance.
