Trump Gets The Last Laugh On Biden
Biden is in for a world of problems on debate day.
In the upcoming presidential debate scheduled for June 27th, 2024, former President Donald Trump will deliver the final remarks following a coin toss won by President Biden’s campaign, CNN announced today.
The decision-making process began with Biden’s team correctly calling “tails,” granting them the choice between selecting the podium position for the incumbent or determining the order of closing statements. Opting for the right-side podium view—consistent with Biden’s stance in previous debates—the Democratic campaign then decided that Trump would deliver the second and final closing statement during the 90-minute event.
This debate marks a significant departure from the traditional schedule set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, making it the earliest general election forum in modern U.S. history. CNN also confirmed that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. did not qualify for the debate stage, having failed to meet the network’s criteria, including ballot access in states totaling at least 270 electoral votes.
Kennedy expressed disappointment over his exclusion, attributing it to objections from Presidents Biden and Trump, and accused CNN of unlawfully accommodating their wishes. Despite his allegations, CNN declined to respond to these claims.
Moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, co-hosts of “State of the Union,” the debate will feature two commercial breaks and a system where microphones will automatically mute when it’s not a candidate’s turn to speak. This setup aims to maintain orderly discourse during the event.
Trump’s contentious relationship with CNN, often branding the network as “fake news,” has been a recurring theme, while he has also playfully suggested the potential for multiple debates with Biden. Another Trump-Biden debate is slated for September 10th under ABC News’ auspices.
Looking ahead, Vice President Kamala Harris has committed to a debate with Trump’s yet-to-be-announced running mate, to be hosted by CBS News on either July 23rd or August 13th. Trump hinted that he would unveil his vice presidential pick during the Republican National Convention scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee.
