Newsom Bans Voter ID, Is This Unacceptable?

Democrats Sue Key Election State

In a significant development reflecting the ongoing tensions in election integrity, the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Party of Georgia have filed a lawsuit against the Georgia State Election Board. This action follows the board’s recent decision to mandate hand-counting of ballots for the 2024 presidential election.

The lawsuit, supported by Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, contends that the board’s narrow 3-2 vote could lead to substantial delays in election results and could compromise ballot security. The plaintiffs argue that this new requirement exceeds the board’s legal authority and threatens the orderly conduct of elections.

According to the new rule, election workers will be required to count ballots by hand on the night of November 5, in addition to the usual machine tallies. This change has been welcomed by supporters of former President Donald Trump, who have consistently raised concerns about potential voter fraud, especially after Biden’s narrow victory in Georgia four years ago.

John Fevier, chairman of the state election board, previously warned that the decision went against legal advice provided to the board. This lawsuit marks the second legal challenge by Democrats regarding Georgia’s election regulations in recent weeks. The other lawsuit targets the board’s rules concerning “reasonable inquiry” and “examination,” which critics argue could complicate the state’s election certification process.

As Election Day approaches, these legal battles highlight the intense debate surrounding election security and the mechanisms designed to ensure its integrity. It is essential for voters and supporters of all parties to stay informed about these developments, as they play a crucial role in shaping the electoral landscape.
