Should Newsom Resign Like Trump Says?

Trump’s New Message To The GOP

In a meeting with Senate Republicans on Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump made it clear that he intends to hit the ground running by signing 100 executive orders within his first days in office, with a significant focus on immigration reform. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) confirmed Trump’s ambitious plan, noting that many of these executive orders would address issues like border security, though not all would be focused exclusively on immigration.

Trump’s immigration adviser, Stephen Miller, was also present at the meeting, where he discussed the president-elect’s vision for securing the southern border. One of the key policies Trump is expected to reinstate on day one is Title 42, a controversial measure from his previous administration that allowed for the swift expulsion of illegal immigrants due to health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the Biden administration kept the policy in place for some time, it expired in May 2023. The Trump team believes reinstating Title 42 would be a strong first step toward curbing illegal immigration.

During the two-hour meeting at the Capitol, Trump and Republican senators debated the best approach to tackle his top priorities, including border security, tax cuts, and defense spending. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) pushed for a comprehensive legislative package that would address these issues together. However, Trump expressed a preference for a single bill that would include all of these provisions—border security, energy reforms, defense, and an extension of the 2017 tax cuts that are set to expire soon.

Trump’s leadership and his alignment with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) suggest that Republicans in the coming Congress are prepared to take bold action on these critical issues. Whether through executive orders or legislation, the president-elect is committed to fulfilling his promises to secure the border, protect American energy independence, and deliver tax relief to hardworking families across the nation. For Republicans, this agenda is not just about policy—it’s about standing firm on the principles of security, economic freedom, and a strong national defense.
