Pelosi Refuses To Speak To Biden

On Monday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) disclosed that she has not had any communication with President Joe Biden since he withdrew from the 2024 presidential race in mid-July. This revelation came amidst speculation and discussion about the impact of Biden’s decision on Democratic Party dynamics and relationships.

Pelosi was questioned about her current relationship with Biden, particularly whether there were any lingering “hurt feelings” over his abrupt exit from the race. ABC’s The View co-host Ana Navarro had previously mentioned that First Lady Jill Biden and her team were reportedly “upset” with Pelosi. When asked directly if she had spoken to Biden since he suspended his reelection bid, Pelosi responded with a straightforward “no.” She further elaborated that the decision to step aside was driven by the need for the party to present a stronger campaign strategy.

Pelosi praised Biden as a “patriotic” and “selfless” leader, acknowledging his role as one of the most significant presidents in modern history. She noted that the choice he made to withdraw was a tough one, but it was essential for preserving his legacy. According to Pelosi, Biden’s decision was a necessary step given the current trajectory of the campaign.

Regarding the transition of power within the Democratic Party, Pelosi maintained that the process for selecting Biden’s successor was open to all potential candidates. She supported Vice President Kamala Harris as the most suitable choice to replace Biden, describing her as “politically astute.”

Reflecting on a letter Biden sent to congressional Democrats on July 8, which indicated he would stay in the race, Pelosi admitted that it did not seem characteristic of Biden and was not taken seriously by her. Biden officially withdrew from the race on July 21.

In the wake of Biden’s exit, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) speculated that Biden might have had a chance against former President Trump had he remained in the race. However, he also predicted that Kamala Harris could prevail against Trump, though he anticipated a tightly contested election.

The upcoming presidential debate, featuring Harris and Trump, is scheduled to air on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, hosted by ABC News with David Muir and Linsey Davis as moderators.
