Is 'Lying Kamala' An Accurate Nickname For Harris?

White House Dodges Major Question

On Friday, the White House faced scrutiny over President Joe Biden’s latest move to impose tariffs on Chinese goods. This development came shortly after Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Donald Trump’s proposed tariff increases during their recent debate.

Trump has pledged to implement tariffs as high as 20% on all imports, which Harris denounced as the “Trump sales tax.” Many economists argue that such a broad tariff could significantly increase costs for consumers and potentially push the U.S. economy into a recession. According to the Center for American Progress Action, a uniform 20% tariff could raise annual expenses by nearly $4,000 for middle-class families.

In contrast, the Biden administration has introduced a set of new tariffs specifically targeting Chinese imports to support the domestic automotive industry. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was questioned on why Biden’s tariffs don’t equate to a sales tax on American consumers, as Harris had suggested about Trump’s plan.

Jean-Pierre argued that Biden’s tariffs are designed to address “China’s unfair trade practices” rather than imposing a blanket tax on American goods. She went on to criticize the previous administration for not effectively reducing the U.S. trade deficit with China and highlighted that Biden’s policies have brought the annual trade deficit with China to its lowest point in a decade. However, Jean-Pierre did not directly address concerns about whether the new tariffs would increase costs for American families.

Jean-Pierre emphasized that the Biden administration’s approach focuses on protecting American workers and businesses by tackling unfair practices from China. She stated, “Our goal is to safeguard American workers and businesses by addressing China’s trade practices. This commitment, which President Biden made earlier this year, remains steadfast. We are dedicated to continuing our efforts to ensure fair trade and support for American industries.”
