Governor Defends Biden After Being Pushed Out Of Race
Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) recently expressed his support for President Joe Biden amidst growing calls from some Democrats for Biden to step aside as the 2024 presidential nominee. Moore defended Biden’s decision to stay in the race, criticizing those within his own party who have publicly demanded that the President withdraw. According to Moore, these public demands were damaging and disrespectful to the administration’s achievements.
In an interview with ABC News’s This Week, Moore reflected on his private conversations with Biden, emphasizing that his candid feedback was meant to support the President. He stated, “When you genuinely care about someone, you provide honest feedback.” Despite his personal conversations with Biden, Moore was dismayed by the public dissent within his party. He asserted that Biden deserved better than to face public pressure from Democrats, especially given the administration’s track record.
Moore praised the Biden-Harris administration for its work in Maryland, noting that it has been instrumental in delivering positive results for the state. His support for Biden’s choice to continue running for office reflects his confidence in the administration’s accomplishments and its direction.
Following Biden’s decision not to seek reelection, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. Harris’s campaign quickly amassed over $100 million in a short period, and various supporter groups have organized fundraising efforts to back her candidacy. This includes broad-based fundraising initiatives such as “white women for Harris” and “black men and women for Harris,” which have seen substantial participation.
Moore addressed concerns about Harris’s previous presidential campaign performance, noting that it was a significant time ago. He highlighted the progress and stability achieved under the Biden administration, including historically low unemployment rates, as evidence of Harris’s potential leadership capabilities. Moore emphasized that the public now has a clearer understanding of what Harris can contribute to the future of the country.
As the Democratic nomination race continues, speculation grows about Harris’s choice for a running mate, with several prominent Democratic governors, including Roy Cooper (D-NC), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), being considered for the role.
