Pelosi Recovering From Surgery

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently underwent successful hip surgery following an injury sustained while traveling in Luxembourg. Pelosi, who is 84 years old, was part of a congressional delegation in Europe to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. According to her spokesperson, Ian Krager, the surgery was completed early Saturday morning, and Pelosi is recovering well.

Pelosi had fallen down a flight of stairs in Luxembourg on Friday, prompting her hospitalization. After the accident, she was transferred to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for surgery. The statement from her office expressed gratitude for the care she received from U.S. military staff and the local medical team in Luxembourg. Pelosi, who is known for her long tenure in Congress, thanked the doctors and staff for their expertise and kindness during her medical ordeal.

While recovering, Pelosi received well-wishes from across the political spectrum, including from Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.), who was also on the Luxembourg trip and disclosed details of her fall. The delegation of lawmakers was in Luxembourg for the anniversary observances of one of World War II’s most significant battles.

Pelosi, despite stepping down from the Speaker’s position last year, remains an active member of Congress. She was re-elected to her 20th term in the House last month, continuing to participate in votes, media appearances, and international trips. Throughout her career, Pelosi has been a staunch advocate for expanded healthcare access, and her spokesperson emphasized her ongoing commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all Americans.

Republicans and Democrats alike, including Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), have expressed their support for Pelosi’s recovery, with Schiff posting on social media, “Wishing @SpeakerPelosi a speedy recovery. We need you healthy and strong as ever!”
