Kamala Calls Democrats The What?
Vice President Kamala Harris has recently characterized her campaign as the “underdogs” in the current presidential race. Her remarks came during her inaugural fundraiser since she officially entered the 2024 presidential contest, which occurred shortly after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race and his subsequent endorsement of her candidacy.
“We have a significant challenge ahead,” Harris stated. “We are definitely the underdogs in this election. But our campaign is driven by the people, and we are gaining momentum.” Her comments might reflect the fluctuating dynamics in polling, where either she or former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, have been reported as leading.
Since Harris announced her candidacy, her campaign has experienced a surge in financial support, amassing an impressive $200 million in the first week alone. She highlighted this unprecedented fundraising achievement, noting that it marked “the most successful 24 hours of grassroots fundraising in the history of presidential campaigns.”
Harris also addressed criticisms from Trump, who has accused her of propagating “wild lies” about her political record. She found these accusations to be “plain weird,” which elicited laughter from her audience. In response, Trump has labeled Harris as “the ORIGINAL Marxist District Attorney,” alleging that she would “destroy” the country in the same way she allegedly harmed San Francisco. Trump has criticized her for her stances on criminal justice reform, including her support for ending cash bail and defunding the police.
Despite this surge in campaign support, some political analysts, including commentator Piers Morgan and Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, have downplayed its significance. Morgan suggested that Harris is currently enjoying a “honeymoon” phase, which he estimates will last about a week. Similarly, Sununu believes this period of heightened support may persist for approximately 30 days.
